I ran across this today. Found a good link that solved my problem. Windows XP doesn't have the LSI logic or BusLogic driver on the cd, so you have to present the drivers on a "floppy" which in reality is a .flp file with the drivers that you mount to the VM during install.
Here's the process that worked for me.
1. Create the VM
2. Change the SCSI adapter in the VM to LSI Logic. BusLogic didn't work for me no matter what I tried.
3. Download the drivers from LSI Logic's Website. I searched for LSI20320-R on their driver download section. IMPORTANT!!! DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.20.18.00. The most recent version didn't work for me, but the above stated version did.
4. Copy the driver files to a .flp file using WinImage.
5. Mount the .flp file to the VM after you boot and go through the normal "press F6" process of installing additional drivers during the XP installation
